Band Description:
With the instrumentation of a jazz combo and the spirit of a punk rock band, Upstanding Hoodrat has an eclectic style that combines jazz, funk, reggae, livetronica, and live band hip hop into something completely their own. Keyboardist/vocalist Sam Hultman's sometimes sung, sometimes rapped stories flow over minimal grooves laid down by bassist James Geisinger and drummer Joe Jaeger, seasoned with tasteful licks from saxophonist Tim Kingstrom. Already building a reputation for their live performances, Upstanding Hoodrat will be releasing their debut EP "Pass The Rope Along" this February.
Upstanding Hoodrat first came together in late 2013 after several of the members played in Jazz Combo together at Normandale Community College.
In early 2014, Upstanding Hoodrat made their live debut and began gigging regularly around the Twin Cities. In their first year of performing, the band has quickly moved from playing dive bars and house shows to earning opening slots at The Cabooze, 7th St. Entry and The Triple Rock. Late 2014 also brought the band's music festival debut at Valhalla Music Festival, as well as a monthly residency at Honey.
In 2015, Upstanding Hoodrat plans on recording their debut album as well as more festival dates and touring. Stay tuned!
