Band Name:  Breakaway

Song Title:  The Crashers and the Snappers

Band Description:  Recently nabbing a spot on The City Pages Min- neapolis’ “Best New Minnesota Musicians of 2014 Picked to Click” poll Joe Kujawa has been swooping through Minneapolis with his dark makeup and darker witch house solo project Breakaway. Coming from a world of DIY punk and hundreds of house shows, Ku- jawa has been playing out solo since 2004 first record- ing and releasing freak folk audio zines under the name Froseph and eventually evolving into an electronic dark- wave sung exclusively in a high falsetto vocal style.
Lately, Kujawa’s voice has been Breakaway’s driving force. His Klaus Nomi-esque singing style has been surprising to many first time listeners who are often further surprised to learn he has never taken any for- mal voice lessons. The vocals reverently blended with the varying rhythms of thick beats and textures (ala Coil) along with minimal melodies all crafted by Kujawa makes for a large dynamic sound that has been bringing audiences to tears. Kujawa’s latest album “Postcarious” released in April 2014 has been gaining more attention in Minneapolis as he ascends from dimly-lit vampire basements into more of a spotlight.

“...Do yourself a favor and pick up [Postcarious] im- mediately — it will make you question everything you thought possible about what a voice can do, what a singer-songwriter should sound like, and how far a heart can bend and fold over itself while listening to music.”
